Why are my parents like this?

My parents scold me when I spend my money that I earned through chores and birthdays on little things I like (ex. Clothes, art supplies, ect.) And then they tell me to save up my money on things I really want. Whenever I do save my money, however, after I tell them what I've decided on buying they say "Why would you want to spend all your money on a dumb thing like that?" And don't allow me to buy it. What?

Is It Normal?

  • They're just over critical control freaks, also inconsistent. I'm sorry you have to put up with that crap but it won't always be so. Maybe you should secretly save up your money to leave home and get away from them?

  • I have the same issue! Except I'm scared they may count my money and realize I've spent it. Do what you want, though! Just hide what you've bought.

  • Are they older? Maybe from the Great Depression Era? What do they buy with there money? How old are you, anyway?
