Why are female sports the most popular during the olympics?

Everyone knows the names of the figure skaters and the gymnasts but no one could name a woman's basketball player to save their life. Outside of the Olympics people dont pay much attention to female athletics relative to their male counterparts in these two sports. The most popular sport in the winter Olympics is women's figure skating, and in the summer Olympics it's women's gymnastics. No one can name one male gymnast or one male figure skater. Why?

    Yes, women's sports are a joke, men will only watch if there is eye candy. That's why in volleyball men can wear baggy shorts but women wear those short tight sexy things. If they wore a normal uniform no one would watch. Bull dykes in baggy softball uniforms, yea, I'll pass.
