  • No teacher has ever, so far, utterly revolutionised my life. There's no single favourite who jumps to mind, and only one or two I have passionately hated. The ones I admire are more for their personality and their understanding of me rather than their ability to teach me things. My personality makes it hard for me to build a personal relationship with any teachers, so the ones that have managed to do that, of which there are three or four, are my favourites.

No, I tell a lie. Mr. G, who taught me maths, wasn't just a teacher of maths but a teacher of life skills generally. Sometimes he'd take whole chunks of lessons and just tell us about life, and gave my life a new perspective. He left school when I was 14; I think I would have got on a lot better with him if I had known him when I was a little bit older. As it was, when I had him I was too insular to talk to teachers at all. He started working in games development, I think - or something like that - after teaching, and he appeared on the TV news once and talked about maths.
