This is one of those things, that's always complicated and different with every person.
It's hard to figure out.
Personally I think if a couple has been together for a while, a few months like you two it's fine to split things evenly.
But it is important to let the guy pay for it f he wants to.
I actually have a rule whenever I go on a first date, I pay for the meal, if it leads to more we can change things up but I always pay for the first dinner.
My suggestion would be that when you go out to eat and they bring the check, wait a minute to see if he goes for it before you. That's my best suggestion as I said this is complicated as it's different with everyone.
