People need to realize nobody can be there at all times. Other people have lives and it's unreasonable for someone to expect to be on call for them.
Most people who feel suicidal get over it, but a few dont.
Also the mental health system is crap. It often makes problems even worse than they were and most people cannot afford appropriate treatment.
I do think support groups can be helpful because people dealing with the same problems can empathize with the situation easier.
Who of you would actually try to help someone suicidal feel better?
