Who is the best vocalist in metal history ?

Tie between King Diamond and Neil Turbin.

I don't really know most of those, but Serj Tankian is a pretty bad-ass vocalist in my opinion.

Not really a metal fan, but Corey Taylor is fucking awesome.

Axl rose????????????????????????????? You're kidding right?? I am no longer familiar with names and such, but I do like chris barnes, karyn crisis and glen benton, though its been a while since I listened to crisis or deicide.

Alexi Laiho is a vocalist?! I always thought that he was a guitarist.

Targa Turunen, Bruce Dickenson and the operatic people that performed with Therion plus Therion's original singer who was like a Nordic and younger version of Ozzy.

Phil Anselmo has the best range, all the way from the growling in Becoming to the screams in Cemetary Gates, he is solid all the way through. Dickinson and Halford are great but they can't get those brutal low notes.

This list is missing important names: Sharon den Adel, Tarja Turunen, Marco Hietala, Floor Jansen, Vibeke Stene, Morten Veland and probably lots of others I can't think of or haven't heard of.

Not sure if they really count as metal but I have to say Kyo of Dir en grey~

Rob Halford has a brilliant range and tone to his voice, as well as being a true pioneer in the genre.

Metal is such a broad genre of music it's hard to come up with a consistent "best" anything for it all. It's hard to believe Cannibal Corpse and Judas Priest are even in the same genre of music :P

Ah.. it's trad. metal stuff. There are vocalists in other sub-genres that can do better, imho.

But, let's work with the classics -Bruce Dickinson, although he actually made far better albums outside of Iron Maiden.

And a honorable mention to Akerfeldt, Opeth is awesome.
