Superficial is judging someone be the obvious or what's on the surface.
Women benefit from being lovely because a lovely woman is valued. Men rarely benefit from their looks because they are undervalued. Women benefit because men appreciate their beauty. Even if men normally choose to marry a plain woman instead of a beautiful one, some of that decision is still based on appearances. He decided he doesn't want a woman that looks beautiful.
