Sorry my opinions do not fit with yours.
I have never seen any intrinsic musical form in rap. As I said, perhaps it could be classified as poetry with a beat, but the "music" part is lacking creativity, spontaneity and just isn't interesting to me. The lyrics, on the other hand can be interesting, though it seems to be so often angry young black men rapping about killing, cops and their bitches, a term for women I find particularly degrading and ignorant.
I never once suggested that you should not enjoy rap, hip hop or any other genre you feel has merit.
I would be really interested in knowing how history does view rap in a hundred years, though.
What hip hop have you listened to to deem it lacking creativity? Mainstream stuff?
Death grips experimental hardcore industrial hip hop, trying something challenging and pushing the boundaries, can't say they lack creativity,
Earl sweatshirt, unique instrumentals and sharp tempo changes, has things to say,
Kendrick Lamar is a genius, he raps about his youth his beliefs ( fuck you're ethnicity ) and has a message to give to the youth, not to mention seamless musical storytelling.
Hip hop is influenced by and has influenced many genres and it incorporates them, yes there's shit out there, people just talking about Molly and bitches but it's defiantly not the only stuff out there,
