I'm putting dreads in slowly. I've been wanting to this for a long time. Now that I'm going ahead with it my family and friends have been cracking jokes and shaming me. Some people think it's cool. My hair dreads naturally and I'm pretty stoked that if I decide I don't want them anymore I can just shave them off! Just thought I'd consult the people from the interweb!

    White people either look just as nappy or just as fine as black people with them, although I usually think they're a waste of luscious locks. They always look dirty, imo, but I realize that they can be kept clean.

    Cultural appropriation is an absurd concept, imo.

    It'd be one thing if it meant actually claiming that your culture invented something from another's, but cultural appropriation is essentially just appreciating and using something from another culture, which is actually a good thing.

    It's racist to say that white people can't have dreads, especially while not applying the same blojik about blacks straightening their hair.

    I see nothing wrong with it I know plenty of whites here in California who have dreads and nobody has an issue with it.

    It doesn't affect me any so I don't care. If you like it then do it.

    It's definitely not cultural appropriation though. White people such as Celts and Vikings wore dreads commonly throughout history and there's even some evidence that dreads originated in India rather than Africa.

    Lots of black girls straighten their hair to fit "Western" beauty so I dont see why a white person can't have dreads.

    Plus its just a fucking hairstyle. People should be proud that their culture is being "appropriated". Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
