I far prefer wheat bread for both taste and the greater nutritional value. I think wheat bread goes better with peanut butter, too.

Mass-produced commercial white bread is awful, but a quality, slow-fermented white loaf can be wonderful. Baguettes in France can be pretty amazing (although they can also be pretty shit).
Mass-produced brown bread is just as bad as its white sibling, and some is a gritty mess.
Virtually all the bread we eat is made in a good bread machine. I use a blend of quality white and wholewheat flours, and add a mix of sunflower, pumpkin, and sesame seeds. It takes five hours to produce a loaf, and it's as tasty as anything I've ever bought from a bakery. Also makes the house smell nice and homey.

What anyone who's been paying attention over those decades will have also learned is just how much you don't know, and I'm well aware of that.

That definitely sounds like that tastes better than store bought white bread crap. Also, store bought wheat bread is often no more nutritious and has no more fiber than white. You gotta get whole wheat if you want fiber, not just wheat. Get those specialty high fiber brands, the more fiber, the better. Or make it in a bread machine at home. Nothing beats homemade.

Tbh, I really like all breads, because I really like carbs. Wheat is still my preference, though.
It really depends on the application. Definitely white for grilled cheese and sub roals. A nutty oatmeal multi grain is nice for peanut butter sandwiches and cold turkey sandwiches, but never a club sandwich since its toasted. There are places for pumpernicle and rye as well but i suppose that's a seperate convo altogether.
White bread is good for a grilled cheese sandwich with mayo, or a multi-cheese sandwich; cheddar, swiss, and provolone with mayo. Whole wheat bread is better for like a turkey and ham sandwich with the works; tomato, onion, lettuce, olives, pickles, mustard, mayo, vinegar, salt and pepper, and green peppers.
I preferred white as a kid growing up. As I've gotten older, more prefer wheat just as an attempt to be more health conscious. I mean generic white bread is devoid of nutrition. Now, however, I've pretty much switched completely to a brand called Lewis Baking Co and they make a few different kinds like "nutty oat", "12 grain", and whole wheat.

No I'm from the US. I just like to cook and bake. Also most mass produced bread is just...bad.
I was just asking because people ask you to make sausage bread, and sausage rolls are a pretty popular British food.
I like British sausages better than most American. I still am waiting for the day when you can buy them in American stores. The closest thing to it that I've found here are the Johnsonville Irish brats, but they only sell them around St. Patrick's day.
I buy my meat from an actual meat market. Great to get fresh meat. Meat at the supermarket is kinda disgusting.

Yes, I have had sausage rolls, meat pies, and even tried blood pudding. My recipe comes from a woman in Virginia. I don't think she was from England though.
