I prefer 2D for purely aesthetic reasons. The majority of my favourite animated films or television programs are 2D. 3D lacks the same visual charm for me, that's why I find it so disappointing that 3D has become the popular stylistic choice for animations now.
Belleville Rendezvous, Akira, Ghost in The Shell, Tekkonkinkreet, Dumbo, The Lion King, and a million cartoons from my childhood make me smile.
The only 3D animated films that stick in my mind are Toy Story, Monster's Inc and Shrek 1 & 2. And that's not because I like how they look, but because the stories and scripts are so sharp.
Which type of animation is better...?
