Black is a better term simply because it doesn't presume your ancestry or nationality based entirely on your face, it's simply describing skin tone and certain shared physical characteristics.
Black American makes sense. We say Black British here in Britain.
and they would be wrong. I'm sure High School and college also tells you to call Indians "Native Americans", yet i took a Tribal government class in college taught by an "Indian" and says Indian is a more correct term, hence the Bureau of Indian Affairs, etc.
Which race of people in America suffers the most animosity?

Yeah mentally throw away that crap.

False. You are either born in Africa, or you are born in America. There is no such thing as an "African American." The correct term is blacks.

Don't kid yourself. Just because I am of Scottish descent doesn't mean I go around calling myself a Scottish American.
Well every college I've ever been to & even in High Schools, they teach their students NOT to use the term "black" sooo ya.

True
Not my old school i use to go to they use to say black.
What about a person who is from Egypt, who emigrated to Canada?
Are they an "African American"?
How about someone with Boer ancestry from South Africa, who now lives in Chile?
Is this person also an "African American"?
