Which organ is the most understated

So we all know the importance of the brain, heart, and lungs. And really, there’s no way of considering then understated. But which organ do you think deserves mores recognition? I vote the pancrease. If he isn’t working well it affect basically every internal organ and the skin.

Obviously none of our internal organs are optional extras, but one organ that's been getting a serious reappraisal of late is the human digestive tract.

It used to be thought that it was just a long tube where nutrients are absorbed and food is turned into shit, but it seems that it's a lot more complicated than that. It also seems that the vast numbers of microorganisms living in our bowels can have an impact on our behaviour. In other words, the bacteria occupying our intestines are able to influence what goes on in our brain.

    The pineal gland.

It used to be a third eye, but evolved into the organ that produces melatonin, which puts us to sleep.

It's stimulated to produce the hormones when our eyes see darkness, and stops when we see light.

    Pretty underrated organ.

The appendix is understated and with reason. It is a vestigial organ, with no known function, and only becomes a cause for concern when all of a sudden you get an awful pain in the lower right side!

If I had to choose an organ that deserves more recognition, I'd choose the GI tract

The dermis I would say. The skin goes through and puts up with alot. Also the biggest organ a human has.....

The liver for sure. I think we have one of the most advanced livers for any creature on the planet. (Probably because we get so fucked up.)

Liver and adrenals. Removing adrenals causes death in a few days.
Liver has a high regenerative capability but you have only one of those.

Kidneys matter along with others mentioned, but you do have two so you could lose one and survive, but the fact there are two might mean they're more important that others. And the pancreas is totally a she!

You are right about the pancreas. If you get cancer of the pancreas you are fucked. And it's becoming more common.

  • The skin. It's a cleansing and temperature control organ, and the largest organ of the body.
