    In answer to you; the UK is a 'sovereign state' which consists of 4 countries. Since the question was not which sovereign state are you from, my point is valid.

      You can't be from England and NOT from the UK.

        Why was I thumbed down for this twice?

        The UK is England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

        If you're from England, you are inherently from the UK.

        Saying "I'm not from the UK, I'm from England" is like saying "I'm not from the USA, I'm from Texas"...

        ...If you're from England, you're from Britain, you're also from the UK, you're also from Europe, you're also from Earth. It's as simple as that. ilovesexytime asserting that he isn't from the UK but he is from England is just dumb. You people with your itchy thumb... fingers (if you get what I mean?)

          Look, I think this is all a bit stupid if i'm honest. My initial comment is in reference to banter I share with a user from on here. However when squeallikeasackofpigs felt the need to respond in such a way, i decided to carry the point forward regarding sovereign states (wrongly i agree)

          I agree that the UK can be a country or a sovereign state of which England is obviously a part of. Since I was born and raised in England, when asked what nationality I am I always answer English but that doesn't mean I'm not British too.

          It's just a ridiculous misunderstanding and I think you calling me dumb is a little unnecessary.

            I didn't call you dumb, I said the statement was dumb. Which is different.

            But yes, I guess the in-joke didn't translate to the rest of us so it was misunderstood. All is well :)

      You're right, the UK is a sovereign state.

      However, and it may seem bizarre, but the UK can legitimately be called a country itself, despite consisting of 4 countries.
