Which language would you learn if you could?

Which of the languages on top would you prefer to learn instantly? I already know English and I'm okay at Spanish, so I would probably pick Mandarin due to it's difficulty and prevalence.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • With a name like mines, obviously Japanese. If not that then French or German.

  • I kind of want to learn my own native language (being that I wasn't taught when I was young) just so I could understand my relatives and not have people who are my ethnicity poke fun at me.

But I would really enjoy learning Japanese.

  • I started on a introductory Japanese course one time but I stopped since life had stepped in. I hope I can still resume it once I've got everything sorted out.

The thing is I already know enough Mandarin Chinese (and able to read both simplified and traditional scripts), but the more I speak English, the less I remember (although not up to the point I forget basic sentences though). I speak it just enough (however it's all a mystery to me if you talk to me in Chinese net slang...)

As far as Spanish, Korean, and German, I have friends and family for that. All others? I don't know enough people like that :P

  • I have tried learning German before, but only got as far as German 2 and nearly failed it. I guess I'm unable to learn languages, or something. However, I would love to learn Swedish.

  • the process of learning languages is actually a lot fun to me, but I guess German cause it's taken me way too long and I'm still only at intermediate level.. russian would be nice too but i've only just started, and haven't really got to the point of being "stuck" yet

  • Why are Swedish and Norwegian lumped together?

And if you are going to lump them, why not include Danish as well?

  • Given the current geopolitical situation, probably best to know Russian.

  • German. It's the language of commerce in Europe, and it sounds amazing.
