Rats. Why? Because they're great companions and most will gladly sit on your shoulder or inside your sweater/hoodie while you go about your daily business around the house. They're also very cute and loving, extremely intelligent, easily trained(to pee in litter box and tricks), form attachments to their owners, always happy to see you, friendly, caring, sociable, fun to play with/watch, they don't smell bad, and they don't bite(unlike hamsters). They're also extremely clean animals, as they groom themselves and their rat friends all the time. And if rats are bonded with their person/owner, they'll groom them as well :) The only down sides of owning rats is that their average lifespan is only 2-3 years and they're extremely prone to illness, like URI's and tumors.
