  • I think children should be brought up without this unhealthy obsession with both mirrors and bathroom scales! My youngest sister was regarded as pretty by our neighbours as we were growing up but we honestly never heard that we were good looking (or ugly) in our whole lives - it just wasn't important!!!

It was more important that we did what we were told, were kind to elderly neighbours or the disabled, or even did well at school. NEVER did our parents mention our looks - we just looked the way we did.

As a result, I think compliments regarding my looks are fake - but that's ok, my husband's not one for giving me any ;o) I am absolutely flabbergasted by people saying I'm good-looking or that men ask me out nearly every weekend. I go to the pub and chat to my wee pensioners, the builder, the bikers, practically everyone except the bitches - who hate me anyway coz I CAN talk to everybody instead of talking ABOUT people.

So, I think if a girl is constantly told she's good-looking (whether it's true or not) she's going to be arrogant about herself but if it's not important to her, then her own personality can shine through to all and sundry.

    • Just because you don't care about looks does not mean that people complimenting your looks are being fake. Sure, maybe a lot of them are but the fact of the matter is the first thing you see is appearance. And from there it follows that strangers have only 1 thing to comment on. your ass
