Pretty people are treated better by basically everyone because they are good-looking. If someone goes through their life always being treated slightly better than everyone else, they wouldn't develop the humbleness that comes with having a "flawed" physical appearance.
A little physical adversity builds a sympathetic character. A lack of it forms a monster.
