My best plan is to hide said firearms in a box two feet underneath the grave of a pet. Dont have a pet? Find a dead gutter stray and boom you got yourself a fool proof disguised weapon cache.
Bury your assault rifles and plant a garden or somethibg over them. Also when the police knock on your door to get them (the us government keeps an illegal list of all guns owned by whom) tell the police they broke an were thrown away long before.
Put your assault rifle inside a PVC pipe with the end caps glued tight. Bury it on a golf course in the middle of the night. The government agents will find it if buried on your own property. MI-6 knows all about that dead pet shit.
What about the side of a ditch? Same PVC piping idea just bored into the side of a ditch towards the road or something.
Okay if you compensate for future water erosion. A junkyard, or nature preserve is also worth considering. Use a post hole digger to make spot look inconspicuous.
That's actually quite smart using a junk yard as cover. Would a smaller faraday cage work to combat metal detectors or are faraday just for emp pulses?

Close enough to walk to, far enough to not be discovered by accident. Ideally you need to bury it in the middle of nowhere, but be able to find it in ten years time. You need a series of checkpoints so you can always find it. Rocks and fences can move and trees chopped down so choose your spot carefully. Bear in mind anything that sets off a metal detector could be dug up.
Stash a map, first aid, ammo and essentials in a separate cache. You're best off burying as many caches as possible, on the off chance one is discovered.
If there is no apocalypse you will make an archaeologist very happy one day.
Wherever you decide, remember to put cosmoline or some other protectant on any metal that isn't stainless or non rusting. A small contained area like that will promote rusting and pitting if just a little water ever gets in.

get one of those gun lockers that are hidden behind a wall or something and can be unlocked by inserting a 8 digit code + an extra password afterwards and then a fingerprint scanner, therefore your guns will be yours only and will be useful for the "apocalypse"
The whole burying it under a pet thing I can't tell whether I should be concerned for your sanity or congratulate your genius. If someone saw a buried animal corpse they wouldn't bother looking under it because thats sad and disgusting
It would be great as a plan you can cry when they dig up the grave and contextually it would be appropriate. Think about it who would think that a guy would use his own dead pet as a cover for his stash, they are either a sociopath or a genius I perfer genius.
Have to agree with the others here - you're best hiding it away from your own property. Burying it in your garden probably won't be enough.
The middle of nowhere would be the best place but if that's a long way from where you live then it's probably not practical. No good having them stashed for an emergency if they're hours away from you.
