Whenever i tell people what i plan to do, i never follow through?

I've noticed a trend, that whenever I tell people what I plan to do with my life (college major, etc), I don't follow through. Then, I agonise over what I'm going to do with myself. I'll even act like I don't know enough about myself to know what my true passions are.

Then, it takes me a million years to realise what my true passions are. I've pissed/exasperated some people off by doing this. It isn't intentional.

I'm realising that it's better not to tell anyone but, the desire to do so is at times extremely overwhelming.

Is this self-sabotage? Is this cold feet? Is this normal?! This is getting so tiresome... :/ Thanks.

    Not sure what it is but I do the same thing. I'll start something and have it almost completed but before I can finish I talk myself out of it. Choosing a major is like throwing a dart on a dart board, you have to accept where the dart lands and follow through with it.

      Thankfully, I haven't started college yet do, nooney has been wasted. I do have a dream job/backup career that I haven't told many about and thankfully, I haven't grown disinterested in it. It would make me very happy. It might even build up my self-esteem. :)

    It's like when you tell people your plans all the excitement leaves and you're stuck with some plan that really has no element of surprise left and its just like whatever. Next time you plan something don't tell anybody until you finish and maybe you'll follow through.

    It is common to be undecided and lack focus, especially in one's youth. It is not good, but it is totally common.

    That must be extremely embarrassing. Perhaps it might be a good idea not to inform others of your intentions until you have successfully completed them. That might be a better strategy, don't you think?

      Even when they ask? My friends and other people I know are all doing stuff with their lives and they have very high expectations for me. Wouldn't they think it was weird if I refused to answer their questions?
