What about terraforming? With the technology we might have in a few thousand years, it's possible we may be able to introduce oxygen into the air of other planets. We may also find a way to exceed the speed of light for space travel. We don't know how much technology will advance in that much time, it's possible we could leave this planet well before it becomes uninhabitable. It's so far into the future that we can only really use our current technology, which is crap, or go off into the realm of science fiction.
My "optimism" that humans will survive is based in my opinion that humans are like roaches. We can't die.
