The first time I tried alcohol, I was probably about six. Just a taste of my dad's pint. It was horrific. I informed him that I would never drink that stuff as long as I lived and he assured me I would. I'll give him credit. He was spot on about that.
The first time I was utterly, steamingly drunk may also have been my last. I was either 18 or 19 (legal in this country) and, to this day, I don't know how close I came to seeing myself off. I had alcohol poisoning for five days and can assure you it's not what I'd call fun.
I know people are always going to drink and nothing would have stopped me experimenting. However, if I could go back in time and give myself some advice, it would be not to drink spirits until I understood that the full effects aren't immediate. In short, know your limits by testing them safely, rather than assuming that because you feel fine, you'll still feel fine in an hour.
thats so true cos at easter time, i bought a bottle of vodka and i just turned 18, so i kinda wanted to know what its like to get really drunk. that night i drank almost all of it in about 3 hours. i felt fine after about half, so i drank more, but about half an hour later i couldnt remember anything, i couldnt stand up, and i had a massive spew.
that memory haunts me whenever i see a bottle of vodka.
When was the 1st time you were drunk?
