    You can just say, "Sorry, but I won't be able to make it." You don't need to provide a reason. And you don't need to be rude.

      Why is it rude to tell the truth? Sure, there are more polite ways to say it but it's not rude that one just doesn't like to go to a party and tell exactly that when asked.
