When turning down a party invitation..

...is it okay to respond: "Sorry, I can't make it because I don't want to."

Just tell them the truth?

  • No point in beating around the bush might as well be straight up. That’s why when people pass me their baby I lay it on the ground and say no thanks.

    • ha ha, you could also keep it then toss it in the garbage later when they're not looking, just to be polite

You can just say, "Sorry, but I won't be able to make it." You don't need to provide a reason. And you don't need to be rude.

Why is it rude to tell the truth? Sure, there are more polite ways to say it but it's not rude that one just doesn't like to go to a party and tell exactly that when asked.

"Sorry, I can't make it because I don't want to." takes more energy than "I can't make it."

        • I guess it's because they expect a reason, but you're right.

It's ok to just text and say "thanks for inviting me! Unfortunately I can't make it but I hope you have a great night".

If someone replies asking you why you can't make it then they are weird. Ignore them

Yep if they ask, that's rude and none of their business.

Don't be a jerk about it... Just say thanks for the invite, but I need to take care of some things/ have work to do...

But just saying "I don't want to" is being rude.

I've done that before. Some people don't like it. Only you know whether you're the type that cares.

I remember I did that to a co-worker a year ago, and she had her friends parked outside of my house trying to figure out what I was doing that was more important than her. It was weird. XD

Glad to see you're doing well, btw! :)

Yeah she was creepy. She tried to blame her mental issues for her dumb behavior. I didn't buy it.

It's good to see you're doing well too! XD

Well, that's weird. I guess this person didn't get the memo, huh? Is this a work related party?
