When people say the word "cheese"

When someone says the word "cheese" to me, and they aren't having their photo taken, my mind automatically thinks of cheddar. I refer to all other types of cheese (feta, monterrey jack, stilton, brie, camembert etc etc) by their actual name, but cheddar to me is just cheese.

Is it normal?

I'm sure cheddar is the default for most Brits and Americans when asked to name a cheese. Just a pity that mass-produced American cheddar is generally pretty crap and bears little resemblance to a good West Country Farmhouse Cheddar.
