[Old Memory]
I cried once when I saw footage on the news of a flood somewhere in South America. A woman was being rescued from being stranded on a rooftop which was going to go under soon. Her neighbours tossed her a rope, which she took in one hand while holding her dog in the other. While they were pulling her to safety, a big gush of water came and pulled her dog from her arm. She must have loved that dog a lot.

I used to tear up at those There's Nothing Like Australia adverts. I have no idea why. I'm not Australian, I've never been to Australia, and I don't have any particular emotional associations with Australia. I don't think the adverts were supposed to be emotional or heart wrenching. I don't even particularly want to go to Australia (although I'm sure it's nice). But for some reason, when I saw those ads, I was filled with sudden, inexplicable Australian patriotism.
Brains are weird.
