sounds like you have synesthesia. it's a medical condition where the stimulation of one cognitive pathway causes the response from another pathway. your visual pathway stimulates smell. I have it too and it's very rare, but completely normal. when I hear music I see colors!
I don't think it's synesthesia. Synesthesia is an unrelated relation between two things, while asker's case is just connotation. There's a difference between memory and synesthesia.
When I see things like.. On tv or from a distance I can smell them.
