I think you know when you consider the "why" rather than just "I don't want kids".
There's a difference between not feeling "ready" to have children, and not wanting children. It's normal for young people to not feel ready. They're studying, partying, building careers and getting their lives together, they don't need a kid thrown into the mix to complicate things further.
But I think it's when you have deeper reasons, that's when you can be sure, you just *know* parenthood is not for you.
Personally, I just hate the thought of having to spend so much of my money on kids' stuff, having no time to myself or with my potential husband, and just generally having that degree of responsibility 24/7, which I'm not cut out for. I've also had issues with depression, and other illnesses in my family, and frankly I feel like I just don't want to bring kids into this to experience all the same dark shit I've felt.
When do you know for sure that you don't want kids?
