  • I don't think I could ever FULLY give up meat just because of ribs. They are the most divine foodstuff in existence. They are a work of art on a plate.
Also all the candy products I wouldn't be able to eat, like marshmallows would drive me insane. And 3/4 of my diet consists of candy so I'd wither away without it.

    • Ribs are fantastic. The last time I had a meat crisis and lapsed, ribs were one of the first things I had. I love the way the Chinese cook ribs. My stomach is moaning just thinking about it and there really is no veggie equivalent or anything even similar.

Most things you don't need to do without, though. Most gelatine is veggie friendly these days (something like 80%, or at least in this country). As a vegetarian, my problem is that I can't take a chance so I've got to *know* it's veggie friendly even though it most probably is.

      • !!! I LOVE Chinese ribs. My God, I've fallen into a deep depression knowing I can't have any at this very moment! (╥_╥)

        • And I'm in an even deeper depression knowing that I can never have them again. :P

            • *notices you playing the violin with a rib rather than a fiddlestick*

              Damn you, you rodent! :P

              • *chomps on ribbstick as I play* ;P

Well that was a short piece. I call it "Ephemeral Rhibsody."

      • It's true, lots of products are vegetarian these days and the number is seemingly increasing.
Actually, one vegetarian food I hate is tofu. I don't not see how this is a suitable replacement to meat. Quorn (however it is spelt) is nice though.

        • Tofu's mainly a replacement for the protein in meat so it's more a health substitute rather than a flavour/texture substitute. I'm not a big fan of it either but sometimes you have to bite the bullet when it's the only veggie option available.

There's only one way I genuinely like it. Small sweetened blobs of it in filo pastry and deep-fried. I don't know what they're called but they're very nice. A bit like a dessert.

Quorn is great stuff. I often have breaded quorn made up to look like a chicken escalope and apart from being a bit looser than chicken, my brain pretty could be fooled that it has had chicken.

Soy mince is good too for chillies and bolognaises and keemas. And I actually prefer the new veggie sausages than meaty ones.

I eat fish, eggs and milk, so I only just have one foot in the veggie camp at the moment. I have been full vegan and that was indeed hell. All credit to vegans who stick to it.

          • Ah, you eat fish. That technically makes you a pescatarian, though most people don't know what that means so it's easier to just call yourself a vegetarian.
I would never give up eggs or milk. They are fundamental in so many foods like cakes, and hell, where would humanity be without fried eggs and chips? No where I tells ya. We'd all be cavemen eating meat from the bone and carrots straight from the earth.

            • Yeah, I'm a lacto-ovo-pescatarian but if I say that, most people ask me which God I believe in. I swear I've had people think it was a religion. I've been every variant of vegetarian in my life and (with the exception of those people who eat fish and chicken), this is as close as it gets to meat-eating. Also, I really can't imagine a life without cheese or yoghurt or milk shakes or egg fried rice.

              • The four foods you mentioned that end of your comment? I only like one of those! Milk shakes are awesome, but I hate cheese (unless it's on something like pizza), I dislike yoghurt, and egg fried rice is alright, but I'd take boiled rice over it anyday.
Actually, one simple dish that I ADORE (and people never understand why when I tell them) is boiled rice with sweet & sour sauce. Seriously, I'll go into a chinese takeaway just to order a portion of rice with a small tub of sweet & sour sauce. Something about it... I don't know what. But it's oddly addictive to me.
