Saw them at Brixton academy last year, near the time I saw alt j.
New school, well, daisy is the newest I love it but I prefer the devil and God are raging inside me.
I like your favorite weapon but it's my least favorite, the whole album makes me think of high school, especially mix tape, seventy times 7 ( love that one) and soco amaretto lime.
Love deja entendu, it was my 6th form album and the whole thing is solid rock song after the next, really good album.
The devil and God are raging inside me is my favorite, you pretty much nailed it, sowing season, Luca, not the sun, limousine too, and you won't know is one of my favorite songs by them.
Daisy is probably technically the best, great concept album, the recording at the start and end make it feel a bit like a hidden track, plus the final two tracks are my favorite ending to any of their records
Was gutted daisy was going to be their last, so glad they chose to make another, said it's going to be more upbeat, makes me think it might be a little like fork and knife,
What about you? What's your favorite album of theirs?
Nothing compares to the Devil and God album, for me. Deja/Your Favorite Weapon were the albums I liked as a teenager. Nostalgia, right? "I Believe you but my Tommy Gun Don't" still gets me pumped. The Boy who Blocked His own Shot/SoCo, Guernica, The No Seatbelt Song (favorite oldie off of YFW)
The old school was youth-like punk style, loved it, but once their style matured: The Devil and God/Daisy, they blew me away. I was into darker/more alternative rock material by the time TD&D album released. Once I heard "Sowing Season" -- chills! That entire album can be listened to front to back, not a bad song on it! When you hear Not The Sun, You Won't Know and Limousine.. The breaks in most of the tracks are so diverse, it is so impressive. Their ability to change the entire mood; heavy guitar riffs, seemingly dark undertones, Lacey's voice, into a sudden upbeat and "new feel" in just one song. Luca is in a class of it's own. That ending is genius.
Millstone and Jesus Christ get me every time. Takes me right back to '06/'07. Just an utterly incredible album.
By the way, did you ever rewind the opening track on The Devil and God? The hidden (voicemails, or whatever it was) was such a badass hidden piece in the album.
For me it's one of those special albums, I still remember the first time I heard it, my mate showed up to play me the album so we just sat in his car and blared it, as soon as I heard the
YEAH Of sowing season I knew they'd created something special,
think we're totally in synch when it comes to brand new, I was going to say about the tonal shifts, that's something I've always loved about band New they've got such a unique talent for pulling off tempo changes that just feel natural.
Yeah I love jessie's voice, his range is incredible but it's how much he changes his voice up, going from a quiet half whisper to a shout in the same song,
No I never have! Didn't even know there was a hidden message I'll have to check it out, wow thought I knew pretty much everything about brand new
Yeah, definitely look for the hidden track. They of course have a more complex way of hidden messages. Very uniquely placed in track 1 and you have to use an actual stereo and rewind during the intro. It's really creepy, in a good way.
Alt-J's track in Taro, too..and 30 Seconds to Mars' at the end of album.. I love hidden tracks.
When I heard Sowing Season, the "YEEEAHHH" got me. I'll never forget listening to it so loud and with my headphones on.. it was already amazing... The subtle tone and guitar, then a huge twist and scream from Lacey. The Devil and God is the best album to blast in the car. My friend and I just did, traveling through back roads; from sunset-to-sundown.. So much simple fun.
That is an album that will change your life.
Fork & Knife! Yesss. That one surprised me. I was the only one of my friends who heard it/really took interest in that one. I still hear, "hope you find your will to folloooow throouuugh" when I hear something like "fork and knife" in a sentence.. Ha.
By any chance do you like The Editors? I saw Interpol (f.yes.) and a bunch of other amazing bands I like too, on your page. Our playlists may be kindred spirits.
Haha! Holy shit yes, I think anyone who loves that song gets it stuck in their head when someone says fork and knife
Ah that's cool :) what's your favorite? For me it's turn on the bright lights no contest, I've heard of the editors but never actually heard their music, I'll check them out, cheers I'm always on the lookout for New music
Interpol, of course so many good ones; No I in threesome, Obstacle 1, PDA remains my favorite.
Try the Editors "An End Has a Start".. That whole album is incredibly amazing. Start with "Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors" / Racing Rats / Escape the Nest / Weight of the World and When Anger Shows. They are all good, my favorites in order, above. I think you will like them all from the moment you give them a listen. When Anger Shows is one I noticed friends needed to give a while to grow before it grew on them. But I feel like you'll really appreciate my favorite part.. the "break" in it. Loud speakers. So good.
Their old stuff is good too. But the An End Has a Start album is king.
Conversation 16 is a great one by The National. As you may already know..
Since you're a Brand New fan, do you know of/like Manchester Orchestra?
Yes! When they were in town, it was a very small and intimate performance. Lacey is mere feet from you. They stuck with the oldies everyone knew and thankfully jumped into The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me tracks. Absolutely amazing.
Daisy is my second favorite album by them, it kept the feel the D&G album had. Which I love: Sink and Bought a Bride, were my fav off of Daisy. Gasoline, Bed, You Stole --gorgeous song, softer, like Bed...In a Jar and of course At the Bottom are the others that top my Brand New playlists.
I can list my favorites forever... Eventually I'm listing the entire albums, because they are that good!
That sounds amazing, I was a little far away, I was on a balcony :(, I was worried before seeing them because on the tour they were saying about performing two albums a night, if it's devil and God and daisy then cool but it might have been the first two which I like but would be a little dissapointing, they played everything I was hoping for, mix of all the albums but probably most from devil and God and deja, hearing and singing Jesus Christ with a room full of other people's got to be one of my gig highlights.
I know what you mean I tried to get someone in to brand new and they asked for a few starter songs, I listed pretty much an entire backcatalouge haha.
You stole is one of my favorite songs, makes me want to lie down and close my eyes then get upland jump around, such an intense song, my favorite part about brand new are the guitar instrumental harmonisations, on so many of their songs if you take one guitar part and listen to it on its own it sounds almost a little off key and strained yet when they layer it with the other guitar part it creates this amazing riff,
whats your current favorite song?

Yes pda is ny favorite of theirs, it's all about the tempo change near the end of the song, brilliant.
Conversation 16 is a great song but I've got to admit as much as I like high violet my favorite of theirs has to be boxer.
Cheers I'll check out the editors :)
I've heard of Manchester orchestra but never actually heard their music I'll check them out
Any particular album that's the best starting point?

I'm off to listen to devil and god
