For instance, to call to the attention of the Ukrainian people fighting to be Russian that the country they want to join has virtually nothing to sell on supermarket shelves, unlike the EU which has a fully stocked supermarket shelves.

Supermarket shelves have nothing to do with it. They only think they want to join Russia because of Putin-backed agitators and illicit Putin funding.
