Don't know about "Nazis", but many vegans behave like members of some obsessive, self-righteous cult.

An example: recently in the UK, they introduced a new version of the £5 banknote. Rather than the traditional paper, it is made out of plastic. Vegans were freaking out and refusing to accept the money when someone discovered that a minuscule amount of tallow (beef fat) is used in the manufacturing process for these notes.

I've seen a calculation showing that the 329 million £5 notes in circulation would, in total, require about HALF the tallow that is rendered down from ONE cow carcass.

But the absurdity of this flies right over the vegans' pointy little heads. As far as they are concerned, the notes are all contaminated by some mystical essence of dead cow, and they would be violating their sacred principles if they even touched one.

It's complete nonsense that you'll suffer malnutrition as a vegan. Geezus!!! WTF! Myth, if there ever was one! Even if you're eating animal derived foods, a healthy diet consists of mostly plant-based food. That is a *healthy* diet that every single friggin' dietitian/nutritionist advises the world to eat.

What vegans do is eat more plants, and skip eating animal products. You eat variety, and much the same as if you ate animal-derived products. You won't get malnourished unless you're an idiot that eats a typical processed junk diet that most people eat. Actually, it's true that many people that do eat animal-derived foods (typical standard industrialized world kind of diet) commonly are found to be low in B-12, iron, calcium, and other nutrients. Anyone that aims to be educated about their diet can get adequate nutrients if vegan, or not.

It's really quite easy to do this, if you ever feel like trying it.

I doubt any of you reading this happen to be athletes. If MMA fighters can go vegan, you can too. Serena and Venus Williams are vegan. Patrik Baboumian, an Iranian-born German strongman is vegan. Do you do powerlifting or anything like that? This guy, Avi R. Lehyani, is an Israeli body builder. He's been vegan for well over 20+ years at least. There's quite a few ultra-runners that are vegan. Scott Jurek is a vegan ultra-runner, look him up. There's also Carl Lewis, the Olympic Gold medalist track and field athlete. He went vegan when he was competing in the Olympics.

Here's the list of MMA fighters that are vegan.
    http://www.fuelforthefighter.com/the-fighter/

There's also plenty of evidence in favor of a vegan, or even just mostly plant-based diet. Just take a look at studies that focus on health outcomes featuring Seventh Day Adventists.

Just posting this to dispel these dumb ass myths you may have about adopting a vegan diet.

No, not saying you MUST go vegan. But, if you CAN, why not?

Speaking from my experience I wouldn't agree, you are just looking at it from a shallow perspective, maybe you can check up some vegan documentaries ( for ur knowledge) and tell me if you will have the same opinion. :)

Kevinevan maybe vegans feel like they have to make you think about suggesting veganism because they don't want animals to suffer, if you knew what happens in slaughterhouses you would understand.

I know what happens in slaughter houses. It sucks but I am still going to eat meat.

People who live in houses don't know how shitty construction workers are treated but they still buy houses. That may be a poor analogy but my point is, life is fucking messy.

Construction workers in most of the cases are treated shitty and get paid not as much as they would deserve but they have a choice of leaving their work to look for something better and animals in the other hand don't have any choices, after a life of torture they are murdered, they are forced to reproduce only to take their child away so they can slaughter him, life is fucking messy true and that is why we should somehow do something about it right?

-I don't know for sure that it is healthy or not for the long term. I know we need certain nutrients and a vegan diet is difficult to do right. Little is known for sure about the long term effects but I think it is pretty well established that at least eating less meat is better for you...not sure how no meat affects you.

-If there's money to be made, somebody will try and it doesn't matter what it is.

-I've never met a vegan or vegetarian jerk. I've only seen a couple get rude on the internet (unprovoked). I have seen several...I mean A LOT...of vegans and vegetarians get undeservedly bullied both in real life and online. Regrettably, I did that to a girl in my class in middle school. I think the prick vegan is a very rare thing.

My dad actually is a vegan, he changed his diet to vegetarian maybe eight years ago, and at some point went full vegan.

There's plenty of things you can eat that give you all the nutrients you need. And I think accessibility to recipes, and those foods make it easier than it used to be.

As for any health benefits I know the one my dad thinks was because of the dairy he got from coffee creamer and cheese actually gave him allergies.

Because since switching, springtime allergies have an affect him at all

I know there is ways to technically get the nutrients, but there is differences between supplements or substitutes and whole foods. Whole food balanced diets that include some meat/fish seem to be better than trying to make up for those things in 'unconventional' ways.

You can get all the nutriens from vegan foods too, actually sugars found in meat can trick your metabolism and is linked to multiplying cancer cells, people who have switched to plant based diet have cured lots of their diseases. It is quite easy to feed on a vegan diet but maybe it seems difficult at the beginning because you are not taught to.

Nothing is wrong with being vegan. I joined them, lol, yep about 3 years ago. I feel great. I can attest to all of the health claims they boast. I switched from being a Paleo-convert to Vegan. I initially went vegan out of laziness. I just didn't want to cook over the summer. That turned into a few weeks...months...and now well, yes, I'm vegan.

Look, once you find out the ethics issues, and what the fuck happens to animals, if you have any fucking empathy, you might consider eating more plants and less meat at the very least. You might at the very least consider where you source that meat from. What are you supporting? Those animals are seriously mistreated. You should at the very freaking least, make sure that such animals are raised humanely. Just consider it.

I'm not daft. I do think some vegans are supporting stupid claims by saying that eating meat is unhealthy. It's as healthy as being vegan. I know of quite a few people that are pro athletes that went vegan for the health benefits. You cannot knock a vegan diet as unhealthy. My recovery from running is fabulous now that I'm vegan. I don't have any intestinal issues as a vegan, whereas eating meat paralyzed my guts. I've found this whole vegan diet easy.

Much of the world is not vegan. However, your omnivore body is more of a plant eater than a meat eater. Many people eat way too much meat. Dairy is even worse. You can find meat eaters that will tell you to stop consuming dairy. Paleo enthusiasts like Dr Mark Hyman say the same thing. Dairy is not good for you. Basically people consume dairy too much!

Anyways, just look at the info. Decide for yourself.
Big deal if some vegans feel superior. I used to not get it. But, now, that I went vegan, I'm always a bit surprised that more people don't at least try to eat more plant-based and less meat. I cant figure how these meat eaters lack empathy. Worse, is being vegan around a bunch of unhealthy, overweight people that simply must have their meat products that they never question. I can understand how vegans might get a bit pissed/smug at that level of denial.

    Just being honest.
If you met me in real life, I do not dole out information unless asked. But, I do have pro-vegan stickers and whatever. Nothing wrong with that.

I'm not the wacky kind of vegan that tries to make pet dogs and cats vegan. Dogs have an intestinal system meant to eat meat. Well, technically dogs are opportunistic omnivores. Cats are in fact obligate carnivores.

Now that I'm on this topic, for fun, it's perfectly alright for you meat eaters to experiment and try some vegan food. You probably eat vegan food without realizing it. Just don't call it vegan, and eat it, lol. Have fun! I've went to vegan food festivals with meat eaters that tagged along. We had a great time. It would surprise you how these foods are made. Come on, you can at the very least be satisfied that the food you eat didn't harm any animal. It's just kindness, that's all.

I see, just making jokes, okay. Hmmm, unless you are in this business? If yes, great!

Vegan mock meats do exist. Lightlife is a brand that makes a bunch of these, like vegan bacon. It's the seasoning that people actually like.

For anyone curious, you can look up Fieldroast.com and Tofurky is another brand. There's Gardein.com too for a bunch of options.

If you have a Trader Joe's nearby, their veggie burgers are good. Yeah, I have friends that are not technically vegan that buy the veggie burgers.

Just dropping some info here because this topic was brought up. That's all.

        • MangoTango

No no, vegans simply don't consume meat made from animal derived ingredients. I've never understood this idea of "fake stuff" unless you are referring to artificial ingredients which is something that typically health-conscious vegans avoid. I presume you're talking about vegans still enjoying burgers and stuff like that, right? Nothing wrong with that. They make the meat on their burgers vegan. Meat doesn't have to come from an animal. Neither does cheese. Neither do marshmallows, nor ice cream, or cheese cake, or whatever else.

For curiosity's sake, go try a bunch of vegan food at a vegan food festival. No one is going to bat an eye if you're not vegan, or ever care to be vegan. It's just interesting to see what people create as vegan approved copycats of the traditional foods typically made with animal products.

I love veggie burgers. Now that I'm on this topic.... I've gotta got to Trader Joe's to pick up some veggie burgers like this:

I hate any kind of popular "movement" or fad. I just do my thing.

If you want to waste your energy be my guest just don't shove it down my throat, in this case literally.

I wouldn't date a vegan or a vegetarian btw. Too much of a fucking hassel. Same goes for anyone who needs to be gluten free. How did those genes not die off already??

Vegans are supposed to be nice, even to humans. So, I'm unsure as to why you think some sort of pressure is on you. Ummm, no.

This is a forum and this topic is on the menu.

Don't know where you're from. If you're ever in Australia, I have to suggest Lord of the Fries (all vegan fast food) http://www.lordofthefries.com.au/
