What would you think if an old friend contacted you on social media?

I found an old friend/acquaintance I used to enjoy talking to nearly daily in high school, but lost contact with after high school, on Instagram. They have no other social media and no photos on their Instagram, so I'm not even sure they really use it. They also have no mutual followers or people we would both know. We weren't best friends or anything, but got along well and talked to each other a lot. I'd like to try to say hi, but don't want to be weird or creepy, especially since we are of the opposite sexes (I'm a girl and he's a guy). Is there a way to not be awkward about it, or am I just overthinking it? How would you feel if you received a message from an old friend on social media after nearly 10 years?

I would feel indifferent, but not like it was out of the normal. 6

I don't respond to anyone on social media, because I'm insecure, neurotic, and feel like I have not accomplished anything in life.

I see it more as an anonymous forum.

its only a vague distant ghost lost in zeros and ones, within the roses in the garden I can see and feel the essence of roseisabella , ultimately a stranger somewhere in the world, living a story all her own, But behind the webs of coding and pixels there is an energy, I may not KNOW who you are, but even if in just a subtle way... in my "theater of mind" on a mostly subconscious level, i see many messages from you on here and it naturally creates an ever shifting but somewhat stable, in and out of focus image/story of you in my mind, and although it may be wildly different than the actual meat body you are currently living in, i think in a way the imagination is as real as anything so therefore in some way it is you, apart of your spirit, after all through the keys you've pressed, the actions you took to lead to words you've expressed have ultimately created it

I don't understand why people think it's weird, or creepy. Friendships are complicated things, especially childhood ones. You move to another school, or another town, or whatever and you lose contact with a friend. It's perfectly normal to try and hang out again.

I've tracked down and have been tracked down by childhood friends and classmates on facebook. It's perfectly normal and also interesting. Since you learn a whole new side to your past friends. You're all adults now, the childish nonsense is far behind you. Some have changed for the better, some for worse.

A guy I used to hate in school and we actually fought a lot back in the day, found me on facebook, wanted to hang out. Now we are buddies. We look back on our fights and laugh.

It would be really a surprise for him, but he will be happy at the same time that you remember him. Chances are you would become close friends.

some really 2 dimensional people may be weirded out but thats on them that they are so closed off. I say go for it, never be afraid to be social with people you want to be social with! sure from time to time you may face rejection, but id reckon more often than not putting yourself out there will lead a good life.I picked the happy one.
