The communication between you and your friend should have been better. You should have let your friend know that you were having feelings for the guy. Now, it just looks like a sudden, spiteful betrayal. I still voted to get with the guy, but I have a husband and no girl-friends so no wonder.
I know, but I did not dare to tell her I was kind of falling for him too. She would have gotten angry at me. I mean, that's competence! And uhm, at least if you guys are happy together!
