    A French physician named Jean-Baptiste Denys transfused blood from sheep and calves to humans in the 1660s. Some survived, but it's believed that's only because the amount of blood received by the human was small.

    The current understanding of the human immune system indicates that if any of them had received a second transfusion, there probably would have been a dramatic immune response to the foreign proteins in the blood, and the patient may well have died.

    Since you can't transfuse blood willy-nilly between humans, basic logic should tell you that you can't safely transfuse large quantities of blood between animal species.
