There are a significant number of Emergency Room and other Doctors and Nurses who tell the story that they have seen multiple cases of "near death" or "died (momentarily dead) and resuscitated" where people come alert and either talk of how peaceful it was and there was a pleasant light with long lost family and friends waiting for them; or that come alert totally terrified by what they experienced or saw. The terrified ones quickly forget it (suppress the memory) and appear to be "normal" after that.
My wife works part time in a hospital and has confirmed that those are common reports by staff dealing with people in such situation.
There are reports in literature going back as far as mostly fully intact "books" go of similar experiences that were documented by the authors at the time.
That leads me to believe that there is in fact someplace our soul goes too when our body dies ... and those experiences may be the basis for the descriptions of heaven and hell.
It's also very common for patients who are able to, to point and look to the corner of the room.
This is sometimes accompanied by them saying the name of a deceased spouse/parent/friend etc. I can think of logical explanations as to why this might happen, but I certainly don't discount the possibility that they are seeing spirits who have "come for them". Its unlikely and yet entirely possible.
That's why being a staunch atheist is such a weird concept for me. Theres ether something or nothing after death and it's a hell of a lot more comforting to think theres exsistance after death.
what will happen after death ?
