  • Okay, story time.

I've been drawing for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I always wanted to a professional illustrator. When I was a teenager, I realised that even passion wouldn't necessarily protect you from unemployment. I'm currently enrolled in an engineering-commerce conjoint degree.

About a week ago, I stumbled upon an author looking for cover illustration for her book. I'm a fan of her work, so I sent in some of my drawings and guess what? I got hired.

I'm eighteen and I got my first commercial job. It's even paid. I'm looking at some three figured compensation with at least 50% upfront payment. So, it's not half bad for a newbie in the industry. If that isn't good enough - I'm a big fan of her work as well. She's a lovely, lovely person.

The reality of it is still dawning on me. I'm studying something completely unrelated to visual art, there are art school students who are competing with me to get jobs like these - and in the end, I'm the one who got hired!!!
