  • When I was 12 I came up with the idea to do a charity benefit concert at my community centre. I went to ask permission of the village council before I even told my parents I was planning it. I just felt this incredible urge to be responsible and independent. I organized the whole thing by myself and, for once in my life, everything went perfectly.

I was never the "star" of my family. Usually my siblings outshone me in different ways, or at least shared the stage with me, so to speak. So, that was the first time I really had "my" moment to shine. I loved how, for once, I wasn't doing something the adults told me to do well, I was doing something I wanted to do well. I've not felt as successful since. I think true self-satisfaction is a rare thing. I definitely felt wholly content that day.
