What was it like getting high the first time you tried it?

  • You nailed it. That was exactly how my experience with weed was. I got high the first time I smoked. That was my senior year of high school. Like you said, I couldn't really understand it and it was weird, like I was spaced out. After a few more times, I started to understand the high and know what to expect. It was enjoyable. But after a while, I became extremely paranoid. And you describing the feelings as derealization and depersonalization is absolutely right on. I was trying for years to find the words to describe how weed eventually started making me feel, leading me to stop, but I could not find the words. Those two words sum it up PERFECTLY. My perception of life and reality became totally warped and distorted. To this day, I can walk outside to go to the store and just get these weird feelings of paranoia and fear...like I'm disconnected from the world, not sure about myself, etc etc etc. It sucks. I hate being around people because of it. I would say to anyone who wants to smoke, do it sparingly, not all the time. Unless you have a personality that can handle it, but you may not know that for sure until it's too late. Take heed, dear friends.

    • It's too late for me. I'm in my first year in college and smoking weed daily and I'm starting to lose myself. I don't have a strong will to live and life itself seems so dull. Also I just feel so anxious all the time and life just seems boring..idk. Weed has just given me a very weird feeling about life. Maybe it was me all along and getting high just triggered these thoughts, but definitely don't get into weed unless you're emotional strong I agree.

    • Yes, it is a common side effect, and anxiety is the root cause. Overcome anxiety and these feelings lessen. I have to say though - two years on I still get some DR/DP which either makes everything seem to look 'off', surreal and strange (these visuals are derealization). Especially if I go outside, I often also feel like I am in a dream like state (this feeling is dePERSONalization).
