I wouldn't vote ovbious trolls becuase a lot of times people say its a troll if they never seen it or don't agree. Which doesn't mean it is a troll ita just not in your opinion agreeble or very common. A lady can say "I got raped by a coworker" and someone can say "BS you woulda told the cops and you didn't. Damn troll!" Which is nonesense. Someone can say "dropped phone in toilet while peeing. Can I salvage this" and they can say "this is a troll, what idiot would take thier phone to the bathroom"!

        • Some people do assume things that are trolls that aren't. That is exaclty why it is 'obvious trolls', not just any old post you think is one. Also on those posts people are suspicious of, people should comment something like 'I am pretty sure this is a troll, but if not, you should.... I think that just in case, people should say that instead of just calling troll and moving on.

All of those annoy me, but you didn't list the very annoying the walls of words with little or no punctuation, going on and on interminably, usually about some trivial issue of interest only to the person posting it or very bored readers. Ditto with such bad spelling and grammar that they're hard to understand, unless the person posting doesn't have english as a first language, in which case I forgive them and commend them for trying.

I'm guilty of making long posts, but I do try to use the proper punctuation, grammar and form paragraphs.

My long posts are usually about cars I have, want, am fixing, or want to fix XD

I find it both funny and frustrating when an OP starts snapping at people. Especially when they go on blocking sprees to block all the people who's advice they don't agree with. Like what good is it to only have the users that agree with them/ tell them the wrong things? That's not going to help at all. Those ops aren't making their lives any better. They're probably making it worse.

I think a lot of people ask if something is normal, but they really don't want to know if it's normal. What they're crazy, codependent asses really want is validation.

        • RoseIsabella

Yeah, there ain't no magic spell for them. If anything they're under the spell of that dance of codependency, and fear, their fear of abandonment, and fear of being alone. I just wish they could stop, listen to people, and leave their unhealthy situations. It's like their addicted to the people who treat them badly, like a trauma bond.

It's so annoying, I feel like I can't just ignore them.

FUCKING Politics posts & I'll explain.

I have no problem with people who who have a well thought out political opinion & happen to disagree with me or anyone else & I have no problem with constructive debate.

This site doesn't attract those types; it attracts fringies...4 chan rejects, the angry & disenfranchised. Every time politics is posted about on here, it's fucking offensive AF

population control, eugenics, murdering trans people, pseudo science re different and supposedly inferior races, overly liberal people advocating censorship...just the bottom of the barrel, absolutely disgusting topics because people want to know if they're normal, which is fair.

It's never constructive though. It's always fucking awful, mean, nasty & goes absolutely nowhere. The name calling "nazi" "woman hater" "snowflake" "SJW" is constant.

I hate it. Wish they would BAN politics. This is NOT a forum for that.

  • Grunewald

I can deal with nasty stuff. It's the human condition. I imagine that the people who post it are so inured to it that they don't realise how nasty it is. Like people who smoke heavily often don't realise how strongly - and perhaps offensively - they will smell of cigarettes to someone who doesn't smoke. As the verse goes, 'They know not what they do'. Or at least, they don't know it as well as the rest of us know it.

What really gets me though is people who deliberately try to be offensive. They're out to upset people on purpose and they know exactly what they doing.

      • Indigo1

But that's just the thing, you can't always "know" people don't think what they say. I've done post that were purely out of true curiosity on touchy subjects with attempts to recoil any potential for offense by adding certain disclaimers and other points of view.... and I'd still get all sorts of people that either think they know what I'm thinking, think I'm purposefully trying to be offensive with no desire to learn something, or think that I am a troll. Albeit this doesn't happen super often with me, but it's quite annoying how many people will jump to the guns and project their own biasses when it does.

word, and ya..and to be fair I hear you though... on occasion it IS painfully obvious to where one could cast assumptions pretty comfortably with certainty beyond any reasonable doubt, but I think SOMETIMES people can be too quick to jump to that conclusion.

              -
            • That is totally right. I think that overall, people on here get offended too easily also. Some people hate everyone's guts who disagrees with them, so people like to jump to conclusions sometimes like you say, because they like to insult people.

People looking for suicide help on this site also bugs me a bit.

Going on this site and asking for help is like going to strangers for help: Maybe 80-90% are going to say "Don't do it!" or something like that, and if we actually give a little more damn than that, we'll say something along the lines of "Get some help."

You can imagine how helpful that is, and how much this backfires attention-seekers.

    Comment Hidden ( show )
      -
    • Grunewald

Suicide is a taboo. This site is an unlikely 'safe space' for free speech. It's going to happen.

People who are suicidal often get the urge in waves: it comes and goes. When that happens all they need is to be persuaded out of it for that wave. Later, the idea of killing themselves might seem like madness. But it's very important that they be dissuaded when the urge strikes.

This of course requires that people give them attention - and some disparagingly call it 'attention-seeking'. But you'd reasonably hope that the people you called out to for help would give you the attention you needed if your life were somehow at risk, too. If some rogue state of mind has seized hold of their thoughts and given them an urge that they later look back on and think, 'what was I thinking??', isn't it a sign that they mustn't become isolated inside their own thoughts for too long? They really need to share and this site lets them do that anonymously - so no stigma/overreactions/rejection from the people they know and care about.

      Comment Hidden ( show )
        -
      • That is all fine and good. But it does seem that a lot of people haven't yet seen help for how they feel, but uet they post on here. It might help, but is it worth your time over talking to someone in person who has dealt with this sort of thing and or is a professional?

        Comment Hidden ( show )
          -
        • Grunewald

Why should the professionals be the first 'line of defence' though? They're expensive, hard to organise, hard for people to pluck up the courage to see, hard to see discreetly, and therapy requires a large degree of time and financial commitment that they have to have already decided is worth it before they've even started going...

Maybe they'll see a professional later or maybe they won't, but I haven't known a mentally ill person who was decisive, free, available or financially able enough to keep their mouth shut about their problems until they saw a professional first. A lot of people can't even keep an appointment. The problem with mental healthcare I think is access.

You come to this site, you can say anything about yourself for free, confidentially, anonymously, without needing an appointment, with no commitment required, and without even needing to get our of your chair and face a real person, and you can hope for some - any - response. Even if not helpful, even if not kind. It's a first step for some people in accepting the reality they've got in front of them and trying to do something with it.

          Comment Hidden ( show )
            -
          • Mental healthcare is poorly avalible, but I hope it is improving. But in a case as extreme as the suicidal thoughts people have on this site, I think the priority should be getting help.

            Comment Hidden ( show )
              -
            • Grunewald

What type of 'should' is this, and who has the right to impose on a sick person a responsibility that might be beyond their ability to assume? Not everyone has time, money, freedom or even an understanding of what's good for them.

A therapist will recommend to a suicidal person that they share their problem with people who are not therapists when they feel like they want to go through with the act - 'family and friends' will be the term they use. Whether they're able to do that depends on how supportive their family is and good they are at making and keeping friends - perhaps not very, if they've ended up suicidal. So they turn to the internet. Boom.

We can't sanitize the world from mental suffering by bundling people off to shrinks when their dysfunction gets too loud. Sick people need to be supported by their community too, whether they're seeing therapists or not: their recovery depends on it.
