I'm a total monogamy man myself. If a relationship is strong I stick with it through thick and thin. Unless there is cheating involved or other such terrible things.

As a side note: If you are a monogamous person in a relationship that very rarely tries sexual encounters with more people I'd personally say that would classify you as polygamy, even if it was only once every 5 years.
I choose polygamy because of your added explanation.
HOWEVER, i want to add that i am in a open relationship...with _ONE_ partner.
I love her, she loves me, we live together, we care for each other, think of each other all the time, have plans for the future together(going as far as that once we eventually want children, i will have one and she will have one)- in other words: we are more serious about one another than many monogamous couples out there.
Just because we live an open sexuality(she with other women, me with other men and women) enriching our lives, does by no means mean that i'd love her any less, care for her any less or value her any less. We are going through thick and thin, we had bad times(job lost, flat cancelled, etc...) already, too.
Of course everybody is entitled to their own wishes, opinions and thoughts. But i would still wish people would at least TRY to see that how people live their sexuality has only VERY little to do with wether a relationship works or not.
I've known couples that were all faithful but still got divorced, others that were cheated on but only grew closer in response, and yet others like us that don't demand faithfulness but still love each other no less.
There's so many more things, like emotional binding, reliance, trust, closeness, etc....that are exclusive to a relationship. Sex does not HAVE to be, if you have all those other things with one another.
As I said I'm a totally monogamous person but that doesn't mean other people should be. I added that sidenote because I didn't want people selecting monogamous who were technically a bit polygamous inclined.
I think it's great and even respectable that you have a relationship like that. If you can share each other sexually then I think that's great. I just don't think I'm capable of handling the jealousy myself but who knows, maybe someone will convince me to try it someday :]
I do think sexuality has a good bit to do with relationships though not to the degree of some people. My partner doesn't need to be good in bed at all but I did to find her personally attracted. But that's a given for any man that truly loves his partner anyway!
I'm all for serial monogomy. I can't imagine myself settling down with one person for the rest of my life. I believe everyone has several people that are meant for them. Not that "there's one soulmate for everyone" bullshit.
However, if anyone is completely happy being with the same person for the rest of their lives, then more power to them. I just can't see myself doing that. I tend to get really bored after the 2nd or 3rd year.
Just to make a small correction, polygamy is a man having multiple wives. The word you're looking for is polyamorous.
My bf and I are both polyamorous, but we consider our relationship to be the most important and the one that we really dedicate our time and emotions to.

Polygyny refers to a man with many wives/female partners.
Polyandry refers to a woman with many husbands/male partners.
Polyamory is love between many partners, regardless of legal marital status.
If anybody ever tries to say they have an "open marriage" or just friends with benifits, don't get involved with them. guys like will smith and porno faggots like mike think they have any right to hate me when they whore their fucking wife out to hundreds of guys. I went for polygamy though, since I don't mind open relationships. I'm not the one engaging with other people though because I don't feel the need to, but I like to leave my partner his freedom so I'm not sure if "polygamy" is really an accurate way to describe this.
I am a total monogamy type of guy, although if you look at my dating past, it would look more like serial monogamy. My issue is that I really want to find a woman that I can spend the rest of my life with, but all of the ones I have started dating have turned out to be cheaters.
My last relationship was 2 years, then she cheated w/ 4 guys. The one before that was 364 days, then I caught her in bed with another guy. The one before that was 7.5 years, then I caught her in bed with another guy that was literally twice her age. I just need a good girl that wont cheat!
Well maybe they have someone in mind that they can't be with so they date other people, settling for a current but ultimately temporary partner. That's SORT OF the situation with my ex. She wanted to be with me but it wasn't really possible (due to distance and differences in life), so she's currently dating elsewhere but unless she finds someone who will change her mind she wants me to be her life partner. Whether or not I would accept that is another thing though.
