Why must a person subscribe to some pre-packaged set of ideas? To Hell with sub-cultures. Nay, to Hell with culture in general. My definition of the word "culture" is: What occurs when people are too afraid to have their own values, goals, interests, and artistic tastes and thus merely imitate their peers. I am uncultured and proud.
Well, a subculture is kind of like saying that you don't belong to the larger, most popular ideal. I don't know of anyone who doesn't fit into any defined subculture, whether they want to or not.
That is rubbish. When you see a bunch of teenagers walking down the street all dressed in the same black band t-shirts with chains laced to their pants and their hair dyed unnatural colors, that is not a coincidence, they are conforming to their subculture on purpose.
What's your favorite American subculture?

They're children, they don't count. They don't even know who they are.
I'm sure you fit in with somebody.
There's posers everywhere, I understand what you're saying. But in the end, everyone has a place, whether you like it or not.

Then my sub-culture has one member: me.
