I like the hippie/liberal/artist/musician culture as well. And I'm sure they all play well together, but could easily have their own category. I mean, you gave farmers and ranchers their own separate category. And how did nudists get pulled out of the hippie/liberal category. Where do you live? And where are the hipsters, students, cyclists, and urban cowboys?
I'm with howaminotmyself on this. I understand you perhaps think that creative types are more likely to be liberal. Maybe it's so, I honestly don't have any answers on that. But I do think creativity is independent of political thought.
Either way, it's a really tiny point and neither of us are picking on you. Although, it is funny about the nudists because I thought the same thing.
To address your questions: Farmers don't ranch and ranchers don't farm. Nudism is an extreme, and I feel warrants it's own category. The hippie category, it's overall accurate that at least 2 or more of the descriptions would apply to the type of person that would choose that category, whereas if I seperated them, I felt people MIGHT very well have a hard time choosing whether they should pick "artist" or "liberal" (for example). Student is not a subculture, as it is a temporary situation. Now a perpetual student, perhaps....(those people who are in their 30's and are still in college for no real reason), however that category would be so small it's not warranted. Hipsters, cyclists and urban cowboys are very small categories. I didn't want to get down too specific. Too many choices would not a better poll make. If anyone has trouble choosing, then don't choose one and leave a comment instead.
My personal category is Redneck, I live in the country, but for some reason I can't vote on this poll!
I don't understand why "favorite"? I get that you think virtually everybody falls under one of these categories, but why would anyone choose addicts, convicts or trailer trash as their favorite American subculture unless they were kidding?
I'm not sure I really see how insightful this poll can possibly be.
Why must a person subscribe to some pre-packaged set of ideas? To Hell with sub-cultures. Nay, to Hell with culture in general. My definition of the word "culture" is: What occurs when people are too afraid to have their own values, goals, interests, and artistic tastes and thus merely imitate their peers. I am uncultured and proud.
That is rubbish. When you see a bunch of teenagers walking down the street all dressed in the same black band t-shirts with chains laced to their pants and their hair dyed unnatural colors, that is not a coincidence, they are conforming to their subculture on purpose.
I am immune to culture.
