  • It`s really sad that society is so screwed up now, having to avoid eye contact just so you wouldn`t get ignored and hurt.

    • It is weird, but I think this tends to be the case in large towns and cities rather than small towns and villages. It also depends on what country you're in.

      • I think it also happens a lot in high schools, or schools in general (but let`s be honest, mostly high schools). There is always a situation where you and a person you recognize straight away are walking towards each other and you think: Oh hi person I know are you going to acknowledge my existence like I plan to in a second I`m going to say hi now oh you didn`t say anything and we`ve almost passed by each other oh you`re looking away now ok.
And then you look away, of course, so it looks like you didn`t notice them and the situation doesn`t get awkward. Aaand that`s when they decide to say hi.

      • Well I live in Ireland and we say hello to everyone we pass in the street, hallway, etc as long as we're not in the city centre and they're coming at us fast and furious - but we would never ignore someone on a one to one basis!!

        That's why we're known as friendly :o)

        • I avoid eye contact because most of the time if I ever do say hi they don't say anything! xD

          • Then they're rude and you just go on your merry way without giving them another thought.

We say - you can't have too many friends or too many shoes!

You never know what new person you might meet who thinks you're just lovely coz you're friendly to everyone.
