  • Does anyone else find it hard to not look at a person when you pass them and you're the only two people there?

    • Ehh, I have AS but I have been working in customer service for a few years now, so personally no. I make eye contact, a little nod and a smile. Strangers don't usually try to spark social interaction beyond anything put "How are ya?" "Fine, yourself?" "Busy lol has a nice day" "You too" which takes no effort at all.

But if you just don't want people to start conversation with you period out of general lack of interest to socialize... well get real, it's a social world v.v Even I find myself having to do this.

    • That's one of the resons why I stare at the walls while walking because then you don't feel as compelled to look.

        • Well I try to make myself come off as 'oblivious' so that the other person doesn't think I'm personally not looking at them. It's even harder though when it's someone I know. I used to just casually glance at people, but sometimes I seriously wouldn't recognize someone that I knew, so now I just look away because your less likely to hurt any feelings that way.

          • It`s really sad that society is so screwed up now, having to avoid eye contact just so you wouldn`t get ignored and hurt.

            • It is weird, but I think this tends to be the case in large towns and cities rather than small towns and villages. It also depends on what country you're in.

              • I think it also happens a lot in high schools, or schools in general (but let`s be honest, mostly high schools). There is always a situation where you and a person you recognize straight away are walking towards each other and you think: Oh hi person I know are you going to acknowledge my existence like I plan to in a second I`m going to say hi now oh you didn`t say anything and we`ve almost passed by each other oh you`re looking away now ok.
And then you look away, of course, so it looks like you didn`t notice them and the situation doesn`t get awkward. Aaand that`s when they decide to say hi.

              • Well I live in Ireland and we say hello to everyone we pass in the street, hallway, etc as long as we're not in the city centre and they're coming at us fast and furious - but we would never ignore someone on a one to one basis!!

                That's why we're known as friendly :o)
