What's the difference between vegan and vegetarian?

I have been sent mixed messages about what Vegan and Vegetarian is... My parents say, vegetarians are people that don't eat meat from any animals, but I thought that was For Vegans. I am seriously confused. My dad claims that if anyone were to go on a diet, they can't eat any meat sources except meat from a bird...This doesn't make any sense.

I need help in understanding, what's the difference between a vegan and a Vegetarian?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Vegetarians don't eat meat, no matter the kind.
Vegans don't eat products that come from animals, meat, eggs, milk etc.

I'm changing my answer since I found this on Reddit.

"The same as the difference between a crackhead and a methhead. Either way, they're both fucked up and they're missing out on life."

vegans will not eat anything that comes from an animal, vegetarians will not eat meat but they can eat dairy products, honey, eggs, etc.

both are completely insane diets though and the majority of vegans and vegetarians are fucked in the head

    Vegetarian - don't eat meat
Vegan - don't eat meat nor use any animal products (milk, eggs, honey, etc.) not only in food but also things like soap and clothing

Vegetarianism is for poor people and veganism is for crazy people who can’t accept that all life that isn’t a plant has to kill in order to continue to survive.
