Just another thought. You can make an appoint with a psychologist and be seen much sooner than a psychiatrist. They can't prescribe medication, but just talking about your problems openly with someone who you don't have to worry about judging you can be extremely helpful.
Don't be satisfied with just anyone though. If you don't like your therapist, find a new one.
