When l was a kid l remember my mom always used to say some gibberish repetitvely alone in the room like some kind of ritual and sometimes do repetitive hand motions with this disturbing spacey look in her eye.. it was pretty weird and freaked me out. But she doesn't do that now thankfully.. and btw she has borderline personality disorder but i never read about symptoms like what i mentioned. Just curious cause i just remembered some stuff from childhood.
It sounds like an obsessive symptom which can be due to many underlying causes, even drug use. BPD is associated with obsessive thoughts.

Borderline personality disorder has a broad range of symptoms .. touches of ocd and even psychosis are pretty common ..
Although it might not even be any mental illness, everyone talks to themselves and does weird stuff when they're alone ..
Yeah most likely due to BPD. I'm sure it was disturbing witnessing that as a kid and not being aware of the science behind it.
But if that was the the only problem you had then consider yourself lucky. A lot of BPD people have anger and addiction problems and neglect or abuse their kids:( hope you aren't one of them..
If so you definitely need therapy even if you think you don't need it.
