Caffeine addiction rarely has very negative side effects, and there are perceived positive side effects (more productive, push through a task - instead of taking a break for a short nap).
I'm not actually aware of any study that backs up the overall productivity benefit claim for caffeine. There are studies that back up that on average longer tasks can be completed more quickly by minimizing breaks.
