What's biden going to do?

So when Biden/Harris takes over, what is it that you've heard or want him to do. Besides hate Trump what do you want and how is that a good way to unite the country.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I challenge you to find a citation from a credible source which indicates that Biden wants to take away your precious guns.

With regard to the USA's national debt, perhaps you haven't noticed what's happened to that on Trump's watch and with the consent of McConnell and all the other Trump minions in congress. Once the scale of the disaster created by trying to deal with the virus became clear, they had no problems shoving billions into the pockets of their friends in big business and giving (relative) peanuts to ordinary people in the hope that this would ensure Trump's return. The usual people who gain from the only form of socialism that Republicans approve of benefitted the most from that, but once McConnell & Co looked at the polls and started to suspect that Biden might win, all of a sudden, deficit spending became a horrible, horrible thing once more.

As for a ruined economy, Trump's stupidity, lack of leadership and disinterest in trying to encourage the American public to behave in ways that minimised the spread of the virus has done a pretty good job on that front. Still, just as the Republicans blamed Obama for the cost of trying to clean up the economic mess he inherited from Bush, I'm sure that Trump cultists will always blame Biden for the mess the USA is now in, and the Republicans who are terrified of upsetting the fanatics will pander to that.

I know that those who fervently believe that the USA is the Greatest Country in the Whole Fucking World don't really give a shit about what those of us looking at it from outside your sacred borders think, but an awful lot of foreigners are looking at you with a mixture of pity and astonishment that you've been able to fuck yourselves over so thoroughly. In the space of four years, you first elected a president who liked the title but had no interest in doing the job and was clearly temperamentally and intellectually incapable of doing it. Then a huge chunk of your population convinced themselves that the virus was all a hoax. And then nearly half of the people who voted in the recent election ignored everything they'd seen over the last four years and voted for the same idiot once more.

As the said idiot Tweeted many times, "SAD!"

I actually think that Joe Biden will be very good for American Business, its people, and in Foreign Relations.

He's a realist, and knows that you cannot change a lot of things; only change directions on some of them.

He also has extensive experience working across the isle with people with different viewpoints to find a compromise position.

I hear a lot of he ain't Trump, he won't do this he won't do that, but I don't hear a lot of Biden wants to do this or that which is really good for the people in the US. I take it you don't like Boris either. As far as the US people feeling it's the greatest country, I would hope we all love our country and want or think it is the best or I'd be looking to move. You seem to have a high opinion of England if that's where you are, and I'm not sure my country is the world's greatest but those of us loyal to it, like to think it's pretty damn good and those in the USA have not only the right but a responsibility to think that way. If not just fold your cards and walk away from the game or would you rather everybody put all your chips in the center and we'll just split them up evenly. That's only a good game if you didn't bring much to table to begin with.

If you were genuinely interested in learning what Biden wants to do, it isn't difficult to find out. The Republicans didn't even bother to create and pass a platform at their convention this year; essentially their platform was, "We'll support whatever Trump decides he wants to do today!"

On the other hand, Biden has put a lot of effort into developing a sensible, detailed program which, amongst other things, includes:

路 Creating a national test and trace program for coronavirus
路 Universal pre-school and expanding free college
      路 Expanding Obamacare
路 Restoring the USA's international reputation (and maybe taking on China)
      路 Criminal justice reform
路 Grants for business support in minority communities
路 Incentivising states to decriminalise pot, and expunge pot convictions
      路 Raising the minimum wage
      路 Investing in green energy

There's nothing there that I see as evil, but then I'm one of those liberals who the Trump cultists lump with commies, Satanists and baby-killers, so I'm sure they wouldn't agree.

As for Boris Johnson, he's a dickhead who has never been subtle about letting people know that he believed he deserved to be Prime Minister. Yet once he managed to claw and plot and worm his way into that position, the only thing he's proved is that he's nothing more than hollow ambition. The job is way beyond his level of competence, he doesn't really know what he wants to achieve and he picked a bunch of second- and third-rate people to run the government departments, so he and they have fucked up over and over. He differs from Trump in that he's more articulate and his privileged education means he's able to drop vaguely apropos chunks of Latin and quotes from classic literature into his meandering speeches. But he's a populist rabble-rouser just like Trump, and he doesn't have much greater intellectual depth.

        This!

I absolutely agree with you here. Trump was hard at work ruining the relationships between the US and Europe. There has never been a better time for us to strengthen our relationships in today's world, plagued by terrorism, climate change, pollution and Russia and China.

Bring back incandescent lights, tax cuts for the mega rich, more coal industry and power plants, backing out of the Paris agreement, the idiocy that is "Space Force", his stupidly expensive wall idea that still won't stop illegal immigration...
These are things you'd expect a parody of the real president to do in a movie, or in GTA, but not in real life... In the same country that sent man to the moon!

BTW: My girlfriend's father was ecstatic when Boris Johnson won and Brexit was a go. He's one of those Brits that believes Great Britain will once again rise from the ashes and be the greatest empire in the world and the rest of us should either serve England, or die.
He still can't get over the fact that not only did his daughter chose a European as her man, but an Eastern European... a Bulgarian (where everyone is either mafia, or a gypsy)!

Worst scum of the world, right? I think he can go and drown himself in the Thames!

You have my sincere sympathies about having a father-in-law to-be such as him.

Trumpists and Brexiteers have a lot in common. The mindset also has a lot in common with those of who bore different labels and caused a huge amount of death and destruction during the twentieth century.

Among the British left, people like your girlfriend's father are called 'Little Englanders'. That's shorthand for people are xenophobic, extremely nationalistic, completely deluded about the significance of the UK in today's world and cling to a fantasy that the Great Britain of the past was a noble, wholly benign force in the world and therefore respected (or at least feared) everywhere.

Such people tend to be not very bright, not very well educated and generally older. Rather like another demographic in another well-known country, in fact.

As I'm sure you know, the UK has now officially left the EU, but the big change in the rules will only hit on 1 January. Johnson and his clown posse are still farting about and trying to throw their weight around as the negotiations for the next set of rules comes down to the wire, but I have a feeling that they might be finally realising that they actually don't have that much weight to throw. It seems entirely possible that the EU might finally be about to shrug, say there can be no agreement on most things, and walk away from the table.

Maybe things won't be as dire as the worst-case no-deal scenarios that some have suggested. The absolute worst-case rarely happens (Trump didn't go to war against China, the coronavirus didn't have a lethality rate of 20% and so on), but I still suspect there's going to be quite a bit of shit hitting various fans in a few weeks. And, as is usually the case, Murphy's law means some of that flying shit will be coming from directions nobody has really thought about.

Ive heard he wants to push back the moon trips and can the space force, which was why I thought he was going to win. It follows the trend of one president announcing space stuff thats going to happen under the next administration that cans the whole thing. It never happens because they don't have actual vehicles that can carry people to space and return to earth and never have.

He's going to do whatever his handlers tell him to. Politics is a wrestling match, you don't know what's going to happen but the people who wrote the script do.

Personally I dont give a crap about politics, but this endless lockdown nonsense is pretty scary. It goes to show you how much power the government has over our lives that they can just declare a "state of emergency" and institute all kinds of nonsense regulations that ruin peoples lives and blatantly violate constitutional rights for the sake of meeting some constantly shifting goalpoasts. You're watching a corporate takeover of the world, the point of the lockdowns is to kill independent buisiness.

I think it's highly unlikely Biden will be able to turn the USA around in the next four years or accomplish much of his agenda, not least because it looks like McConnell will still control the Senate. After four years of being a doormat under Trump's golfing shoes, he will flip back to obstruction mode just as he was during the Obama administration, and he'll do his best to kill anything and everything Biden attempts to do.

At least we won't all hear everyday that the President of the USA has had a Twitter-tantrum after Carlson, Dobbs or Ingraham ranted about something, said something vile about someone lower down the totem-pole, fired someone via Tweet after proclaiming him One of The Best People the week before, or just flat-out lied or said something incredibly dumb with complete conviction.

One thing I am looking forward to is seeing how Twitter deals with Trump from 12:01 on 20 January. At that point, he will be a private citizen again. If Twitter sticks to their own rules, he won't get away with as much as he has over the last four-plus years. That would definitely trigger the Trump cult, and the rage and tears could be epic.

I hear you, buddy. But remember that the U.S. is not so much about riches as it is about investment. Foreign geniuses get huge salaries to immigrate and clean up business processes. But that does not preclude you or me. Online investment websites can authorize you for trading on foreign exchanges, and you can buy the same stocks that I have from the comfort of your lounge chair over in Northern England.

Just read the business section. There's more to be optimistic about.

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • As I thought, most of the Biden supportive comments are he's not Trump or won't do what Trump did.
Boojum at least you put some thought into it and listed his platform agenda, which from my perspective I can totally understand why half the USA people are against. They are good talking points and get me elected topics, that Biden has always been good at even if there is no intent to fulfill them. They are mostly all give me free stuff items to fulfill somebodies wish list.
This is going to come out as mean and uncaring but I had parents that fed me, clothed me, kept a roof over my head, and generally took care of my needs until I turned 16. At that point I moved out and it became my responsibility. I got a job, a roof over my head, paid for my education which yes I'll agree took me ten years to get as well as pay for, I even got married had a couple children and some how during all this kept myself and family fed. Did this happen all over night or by the time I was twenty, no, it did not. Was I handed anything, No. I left at 16 with a minimum wage job, I didn't rob or steal or get thrown in jail. I couldn't afford to do drugs and I had to learn responsibilities such as savings, time management, and yes there was some play time but not a lot, mostly work, school, sleep, and repeat.

So lets break the platform down,

路 Creating a national test and trace program for coronavirus
I don't know about you but I don't like the idea of being tracked by my cell phone and knowing everyone and everywhere I've been. I'd rather give up my cell phone. I don't like group text now, much less have an alert go off every time I walk down the street and I get twenty five alerts because somebody got a positive test that walked past a guy that I walked past, or that I am required to get a test because three days ago I happened to be with in six to ten feet of somebody who came up positive. no thanks on the tracing and testing.

路 Universal pre-school and expanding free college
There is no such thing as a free, somebody is going to pay for it or are the schools and professors going to be volunteer and do it with out compensation. Now if you say tax payers, then this also applies to the next topic. Tax payer funded programs without cost controls don't work. When the program wants, or needs more money they just want to dig a little deeper in to the peoples pockets again. This I would say is one reason the US primary schools fail to reach the high standards that they should, it has become all about how much money can they get or are entitled to. Not how good is our product that we are turning out.

    路 Expanding Obamacare
I lived under government run health care. No Thanks! Apply the answer above on funding and cost. The same thing happens here, you will end up with two systems. The basic that fulfills the basic requirements at mediocre level care and a higher level of care for those that can afford to pay for it. In effect if you can afford it you will pay twice once out of taxes and then out of pocket, if you want quality care. O-care has and will always be a socialist ploy that the Socialist around the world love to use. Give the people something even if it is designed bad or can't work the way it is designed because once it is in effect we can always say we need to reform it an it needs more money, people, or recourses. Just get it in place because then anybody who wants to take it away we can make them look like monsters. "They" want to take away your heath care. It doesn't matter that you didn't have this 12 years ago and we put in a flawed program and sold you a bill of goods. You bought our song and dance now you'll have to fix it. The same thing happened with the USA's Social Security, Welfare, and Medicare for their elderly. Don't dare think about taking them away you must be a monster, just pump in more tax money. Many scholars said they were flawed at the beginning and unsustainable without cost controls but people like give me's they don't like controls.

路 Restoring the USA's international reputation (and maybe taking on China)
And you think Biden is going to bite the hand that feeds him. No foreign bad actor, country that I know of has said "Oh No Biden got elected we're up a creek now" mater of fact just the opposite, SK is worried he won't stand up to NK. Iran is happy they'll get what they want just like Obama and Kerry. Mexico not thrilled, Brazil is not happy at all. The US should have good relations with everyone as long as you line the right pockets.

    路 Criminal justice reform
Even the Dems had to admit this was one of Trumps accomplishments, enough that they were worried about the minority vote. Unless your looking the opposite way then the lock em up policies of both Biden and Harris may be a point.

路 Grants for business support in minority communities
More free money stuff, People will either need deep pockets or something has got to go. Some major cuts coming somewhere.
路 Incentivising states to decriminalise pot, and expunge pot convictions
I'm kind of in support of this one, except I'd like to see a readily available quick test method to determine the under the influence level like they have for alcohol. There are a lot of critical jobs I want people thinking straight for much less the driving issue.

    路 Raising the minimum wage
Raise it as high as you want but don't whine about inflation or unemployment. Do you really think the CEOs are going to just take this out of their pockets and go home with less. Stock holders won't be happy and they won't have a job long. So he should pay a higher minimum plus he'll need to give some to those already there you don't expect the bottom to get more without raising the others do you. Now either prices go up, profits go down, or cut people. I can hear it now, People won't buy our product at that high of price so maybe just shut the doors and go out of business. Maybe we can raise our prices and people will still buy our product, but if you have to pay more for everything, did raising the minimum help?
    路 Investing in green energy
more free money, Tax break, instead of for the rich for people with same political view. At least for the rich it was fair for all rich no mater your views on things. I thought you were against tax breaks for the rich?

  • Englishlad, I agree with you but would add one thing and you won't hear really anything about it in the news or social media. He'll probably put Harris in charge of it because they are priming her to take the top Job. They will fire as many people in mid to high level government jobs that they find that are not deep state loyalist they will even reach out into private industries to support Dem supporters and tear down others. This will be used in the future to undermine anyone who gets elected and doesn't do what they want. It won't nessisarily stop an establishment republican because they like the gravy train and will work with in the deep state. These loyalist will go down 3 or 4 levels and the longer it exists the harder to weed out. Unfortunately if you're an outsider you'll have a hard time finding anyone with experience that's not loyal to the deep state even if you fire the top two or three and then the media will be making a big deal about it.

What I'd like Biden to do and what I think Biden will do are two very different things.

I'd like Biden to invest in job creation, put the American people first, stop all this absolutely ridiculous shit flinging that's happening from both sides of the political divide, and keep the transatlantic partnership as strong as it always was.

I think Biden will make taxes astronomically high for people on low incomes, open up mass open-door immigration on an industrial scale to get back at Trump out of spite, pacify the left by continuing to piss Trump supporters off, and completely destroy the US-UK alliance.

He'll get away with it though, because he belongs to the "correct" party.
